Scott & White Center for Advanced Medicine
Temple, Texas
The new Center for Advanced Medicine (CAM) is positioned in front of the existing Scott & White medical center and creates a new image for this visually prominent Temple landmark. The project provides 416 state-of-the-art patient rooms in two nursing towers: the eight-story North Tower and the five-story South Tower.
By utilizing a “universal” planning / structural grid in all areas of the hospital that would accommodate all basic room modules, the resulting design offered total flexibility in planning, utilization of prior efforts and the most cost-effective construction module.
The new facility includes a healing garden and connection to the existing building on five levels. Site work involved the provision of a new entry drive to the campus, a new helipad, medical gas tank farm, new electrical (normal and emergency) service, the addition of three new parking lots, and the construction/reconstruction of 1,381 parking spaces to meet current accessibility criteria.
The CAM includes a Level 1 Trauma Center, an outpatient cardiovascular and heart clinic, interventional cardiovascular cath labs, labor and delivery rooms, 190 medical and surgical beds, 35 orthopedic beds, 32 pediatric beds, 24 postpartum beds, 70 med/surg/CCU ICU beds, 40 Neonatal ICU beds, and eight pediatric ICU beds.
