Bishop Lynch High School Performing Arts Facility

Bishop Lynch High School Performing Arts Facility

A 400-seat auditorium with proscenium stage, blackbox theater, choral and theatre classrooms, chapel and a converted cafetorium provided the key elements used to create the 24,000-square-foot performing arts facility for Bishop Lynch Catholic High School. Particular attention was given to the design of the theater and stage house to reflect the scale and character of this older neighborhood. The old cafetorium has been converted into a new student dining hall complete with connecting windows that have views into the gym. Designed more as food court than high school cafeteria, it is centrally located on a new circulation corridor linking all three of the primary building entrances. The sweeping glass theater entry is a large, multifaceted pre-function space which can serve as a quiet art gallery or an active student commons. The focal point within this new addition is the St. Katherine of Assisi Chapel. Clearly visible upon approach from public and student entrances, a rough stone wall simply defines the exterior and interior of this spiritual heart of the campus.
