Austin College – New Science Building
Sherman, Texas
The 103,000-square-foot Austin College Science Building in Sherman, Texas, is distinctive for its environmental sensitivity and educational impact. The architectural character and building materials will augment sustainable performance through water conservation, energy efficiency, and natural daylighting. Building components which will incorporate these concepts include a rainwater collection system, native plant landscaping, energy-efficient reflective roof coating, rooftop gardens, solar shading and access to natural light. LEED Silver-level certification will be pursued for this project. Departments programmed for the building include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math and Computer Science and Environmental Science. Anticipated to be complete in 2011, the building will also house research laboratories, a 110-seat auditorium, faculty offices, conference and support spaces and a rooftop observatory. In addition to providing architecture, MEP and structural engineering, PageSoutherlandPage will provide administrative and documentation services required by the LEED certification process.
