Austin Convention Center
Austin, Texas

Page Southerland Page led the Austin Collaborative Venture in designing this 410,000-square-foot complex, integrating it harmoniously into the fabric of the city. The unconventional arrangement of program elements wherein building circulation and smaller-scaled programmatic elements surround the large exhibition spaces enlivens the city’s streetscape. Lobbies, meeting rooms and pre-function spaces are designed individually with scale, proportion, color, material and character representative of the city and region.

Green design features include use of local materials, extensive daylighting, careful zoning of energy consumption on an as-occupied basis, a thermal storage system, a large array of solar panels and highly efficient multiple switching fixtures.

In addition to the design of the Center, the project scope included site selection, programming and interior design, as well as the development of a District Master Plan and Urban Design Guidelines for the surrounding 40-block Central Business District area.
