University General Hospital
Houston, Texas

University General Hospital provides 72 inpatient beds, six of which are ICU. The hospital is home to Houston’s largest operating rooms, each equipped with voice command, Stryker booms, and an integrated communications system that connects surgical suites, lab, pathology, nurses’ stations, and physicians’ lounge.

The emergency room, lab, administration, admitting/registration and main lobby are on the first floor, which also houses a diagnostic imaging suite. The second-floor surgical suite consists of six operating rooms, two heart cath labs, an endoscopy room, 24 pre-op/PACU beds and support spaces. Two of the PACU beds are designed as major PACU beds for the recovery of patients requiring intensive monitoring. It boasts a 4100 catheterization lab, the only one of its kind in the greater Houston metropolitan area.

The hospital provides 16 bariatric patient rooms, with bariatric beds and bathrooms which have larger showers and heavy-duty toilets, sinks and grab bars.

Each patient room is equipped with complimentary high-speed wireless Internet, flat screen panel TV, original artwork and designer décor, and room service is available 24 hours a day. Programming, planning, architecture and MEP engineering were provided for the hospital, which occupies six floors of a medical office building also designed by PageSoutherlandPage.
