Washington, DC (14 May 2010) The United States Department of State Bureau of Overseas Building Operations announced that the design-build team of B.L. Harbert, International and PageSoutherlandPage has been awarded the new $138 million embassy compound in Dakar, Senegal. Accommodating 455 employees, the 9.9-acre compound will encompass a 16,000-square-foot chancery building, three access control facilities, marine security guard quarters, a parking garage, a recreation facility, a vehicle maintenance building, shop facilities and a mail screening area. Key energy features include solar collectors for electricity generation and hot water, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, graywater irrigation, heat-recovery chillers and daylight harvesting systems to reduce electrical demands. This project is the 10th U.S. Embassy Compound in Africa designed by PageSoutherlandPage, and the second project in Dakar designed by the firm. The 22-story Millennium Plaza building, when constructed, will house various international organizations. In addition, PageSoutherlandPage helped develop the initial master plan and feasibility study for the University of Future Africa, planned for a site near Dakar. The Arlington, Virginia office of PageSoutherlandPage is Architect of Record for the embassy compound, with bridging design by Yost Grube Hall, Portland, Oregon. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2010 and with completion by early 2013. Media Contact: Nancy Acker Fleshman - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
