Burkina-FasoWashington, DC (23 February 2011) The United States Embassy Compound in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, recently received the Eagle Award for Excellence Merit Award for Institutional Projects, $50M - $100M, in the Excellence in Construction Awards sponsored by Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. The Awards Ceremony was held on February 22, 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria in Orlando, Florida.

The project, which is one of 17 embassy compounds designed by PageSoutherlandPage, previously won the Merit Award in the International Category from the Alabama Chapter.  Although this new embassy building is modest in scale and budget compared with most other new U.S. embassies, the design demonstrates a high degree of sensitivity to its physical and social context. This arid, desert land is home to a society that incorporates exuberant colors, patterns and textures in everything from fabric design to building facades.

B.L. Harbert International was the contractor for this design-build project. The PageSoutherlandPage team included John Gies, Jameson Terry, Anthony Alafriz, Ben Webne, Hunter Cotterman, Sarah Odom, Javier Rodriguez, Cliff Johnson, Greg Savage, Marquisha Powell, Orisa Velasquez, Alison Corcoran, James Wright and Thomas McCarthy.
