Arlington, VA (1 November 2010) – The United States Department of State Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO) announced that the design-build team of B.L. Harbert, International and PageSoutherlandPage has been awarded the new $734 million embassy compound in Islamabad, Pakistan. The project is among the largest construction works undertaken by the OBO with a six-year construction schedule and over 1.6 million square feet of building area. The compound, which will replace the facility built in 1972, will include a new office building and annex, ambassador’s residence, recreation facilities, parking facilities and Marine security guard quarters on the 35-acre site. The project has been divided into several phases with expected completion in 2016. In 2001, PageSoutherlandPage began to pursue a new generation of design-build embassy projects offered by the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Overseas Building Operations. Since then, 16 design-build U.S. embassy and consular projects have been designed by the firm’s Arlington, Virginia office.
