Topping Out Ceremonies Held for Adjacent Hospitals

Houston, Texas (3 August 2009) Topping out ceremonies were recently held for two adjacent hospitals in West Houston, both of which have been designed by PageSoutherlandPage.

Texas Children’s West Campus, located in a park-like setting on 55 acres at I-10 and Barker Cypress, includes a 294,000-square-foot hospital and a 221,000-square–foot MOB. The hospital will open in the winter of 2010 with 48 beds, with an additional 48 beds to follow. When completed, the new facility will be among the largest suburban pediatric hospitals in the nation.

Just to the west and adjacent to the Texas Children’s campus is the Methodist West Houston Hospital. The 78-acre campus includes a six-story, 474,000-square-foot hospital and a six-story, 162,000-square-foot medical office building, both of which will open in late 2010. The acute-care hospital will initially open with 112 beds, and will expand to 193 beds to complete Phase I. Intended to be developed in three phases, the hospital will ultimately accommodate 592 beds.

Both campuses will incorporate interior and exterior evidence-based design elements that promote healing, such as abundant natural light, views of water and nature, and outdoor park-like settings for patient and family use.
