He managed the design of the Echelon buildings in Alexandria, Virginia, a complex of high-rise residential towers that serve as models for transit-oriented, sustainable growth. He also oversaw base camp design for United Nations peacekeeping support in Darfur; a laboratory and academic building at George Mason University’s Prince William Campus in Manassas, Virginia; and numerous commercial office buildings in the Washington Metropolitan area including Carlyle Place, Carlyle Square, 600 13th Street, NW, the Silver LEED Certified Navy League Headquarters and Eisenhower Gateway. His Federal portfolio also includes the F.B.I. Field Office in Las Vegas; the U.S. Army Materiel Command Headquarters on Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; and a secure G.S.A. building on Bolling Air Force Base. Delivered as Design/Build awards, these projects demand foresight and high levels of team coordination to support their fast-tracked deadlines. Thomas is a LEED accredited professional with a commitment to sustainability and responsible stewardship of global resources. Since 2006, all of his Federal projects have been designed to achieve LEED certification, including embassy and consulate complexes, where novel approaches are demanded due to local capabilities and practices. Thomas served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture where he taught CADD and Digital Design, and is a former chairman of the Sandcastle Competition fundraiser for the Houston Chapter of the AIA. He received a B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, where he double-majored in Finance and Real Estate Development, and earned a M.Arch, with honors, from the University of Houston College of Architecture where he was inducted into Tau Sigma Delta Architectural Honor Society. |
