Joanna Yaghooti Becomes First BREEAM Accredited Professional in the United States

Joanna YaghootiHouston, TX (5 August 2010) – Joanna Yaghooti of PageSoutherlandPage has become the first Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Accredited Professional in the United States, joining less than 300 people worldwide with this accreditation.  Joanna is a leader in the sustainable design practice at PageSoutherlandPage, an international architecture and engineering firm.

Established in Great Britain by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), BREEAM is the leading and most widely used international environmental assessment method for buildings. Its counterparts in other regions include LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in North America, Green Star in Australia and HQE in France.

Joanna successfully completed the BREEAM exam recently in Watford, England.

“Joanna’s accreditation will better position the firm for projects overseas,” John Cryer III, AIA, principal of the Houston office of PageSoutherlandPage, said. “International clients are increasingly seeking BREEAM certifications for their projects, and having the first BREAAM AP in the United States on our staff definitely gives PageSoutherlandPage an edge in the international market.”

Joanna joined PageSoutherlandPage in 2004.  She is responsible for mentoring and training architects and engineers in the use of sustainable concepts in design, including quality assurance in design and quality control during construction, and has designed and taught LEED Accredited Professional exams to university students, clients and employees at PageSoutherlandPage. Joanna serves as an Education Provider Reviewer for the U.S. Green Building Council, reviewing courses submitted for consideration as official U.S. Green Building Council continuing education courses. Her recent projects include Houston’s Discovery Green and related park buildings, all of which are LEED Gold certified, the second-highest level of LEED certification.

Joanna has a Masters of Architecture from the Ohio State University’s Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Kenyon College.
