John has almost four decades of experience, most of which has been spent developing and managing large architectural teams which specialize in complex and unique building types.
John joined Caudill Rowlett Scott (CRS) of Houston in 1972, shortly after graduating with a bachelor degree in architecture from Louisiana State University in 1971. While at CRSS, John managed projects such as Chrysler Technology Center, 3M Electronics Group and the Superconducting Super Collider. In 1990, in recognition of his leadership abilities, he was promoted to Executive Vice President and Managing Principal of CRSS Architects, Inc. and one of three partners of the Caudill Rowlett Scott Partnership. John also created the CRSS Discovery Center, which focused on the advancement of science and research through the development of new work environments.
In 1993, John made a strategic career change and became the first outside professional to be offered ownership in Texas’ oldest architecture firm, PageSoutherlandPage. Since that time he has transformed the Houston operation through recruitment and specialization into a revitalized, growing major architecture and engineering practice. Under his leadership, the Houston office was named AIA Firm of the Year by the Houston Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2007.
Since joining PageSoutherlandPage as a principal, John’s commitment to the revitalization of Houston’s central business district has been demonstrated not only through his involvement in many downtown organizations, leadership in major urban projects, but also through the fact that he resides there himself and moved the firm’s offices downtown when there were very few similar kinds of professional design offices in downtown Houston.
Over the last few years, John has focused on expanding the international portfolio of PageSoutherlandPage, most notably in Africa and the Middle East, with such projects as the Presidential Library and Museum in Equatorial Guinea, the five-star Kempinski Hotel in Ghana, Millennium Tower in Senegal and the Petroleum Institute Research Center in Abu Dhabi.
