Sustainability is an essential part of our vocabulary, and it informs much of what we do, both as designers and as fellow custodians of the earth. From energy efficiency and natural lighting to planted roofs and renewable materials, sustainable design depends upon innovation, creative thinking, teamwork and a willingness to shift away from conventional construction methods. We already did a lot of these common sense things long before the term “sustainability” came into common usage. We have always strived to design places that would last a long time and perform well – socially, technically, functionally and aesthetically. Our commitment to sustainable design is reinforced by our involvement with the U.S. Green Building Council, our increasing number of LEED certified buildings, and most recently, our adoption of the 2030 Challenge.
