Acoma Wins Gold Nugget Grand Award

Acoma Wins Gold Nugget Grand AwardHouston, Texas (2 July 2010)  Acoma, a 16-story residential tower in Denver developed by The Hanover Company, received the Gold Nugget Grand Award in the category of Best Multi-Family Housing Project – Over 6 Stories.  Gold Nugget Awards recognize excellence and innovation in addressing complex design/build issues and honor builders, developers, architects and land planners with communities and projects in the 14 western states and all international countries.

Located at the southern end of Denver’s Golden Triangle, Acoma serves as the terminus for Acoma Avenue, Denver’s “Avenue of the Arts.” The PageSoutherlandPage design team and Hanover worked closely with the Triangle’s neighborhood advisory group to create a project that would fit perfectly into the neighborhood.

Detailed brick and punched windows tie to the surrounding context.   Brick and cast stone details at the base of the 220-unit building and the rich layers of pedestrian, public, and semi-private spaces around the street edge also reinforce the connection to the immediate streetscape.   Reflecting its location in the art district, there are several outdoor public sculptures, and local artists’ work is showcased throughout the interior. The unique profile of the building envelope helped to create 80 individual unit types, allowing the design team to create many versions of similar unit types.

The PageSoutherlandPage Acoma team included Arturo Chavez, David Quenemoen, Joan Albert, Ed Ramirez, Tami Merrick, Hector Villareal, Steve Edwards, Autumn Anderson and Jun Zou.
